Government-Funded Program for Employee Skills Development

Developed for small businesses and non-profit organizations, the B.C. government's new Workplace Training for Innovation Program (WTIP) can assist employers to increase employee efficiency, improve services and reduce costs by giving their employees new and valuable skills. Through WTIP, employers with fewer than 50 staff can access up to $5,000 for employee training to bring valuable new skills into the office or workshop and help B.C. communities to meet their current and future needs for a highly skilled workforce. This hands-on course will assist business owners and bookkeepers in converting a manual set of books to a computerized accounting system. It covers the basics of how to use each of the journals including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and the general journal. Students will create a new company from a template and learn to add, edit and delete various accounts, enter typical transactions using the accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll ledgers, use the general journal to enter basic transactions and perform period-end procedures.
