Welcome to Community Futures East Kootenay (CFEK)
Community Futures East Kootenay, now in its 21st year of operation, is a non-profit organization lead by a volunteer and regionally-based Board of Directors. CFEK's role, in brief, is to create sustainable communities by promoting local, community-based economic development. CFEK helps accomplish this through partnerships and initiatives, as well as the delivery of business loans, business training and counselling, and other related services.
CFEK serves the entire East Kootenay, a region that ranges from Golden south to the Columbia Valley and Cranbrook, and east to the Elk Valley and the Alberta border. CFEK is staffed by 13 full and part-time professionals, has consultants throughout the region, and is part of a network of 34 BC Community Futures organizations.
Our Vision… "Enriching people and communities"
Our Mission… "Growing business through education, guidance, and financial support"
Community Futures partners with a number of organizations, including:
CFEK has a close working relationship with the Kootenay Rockies Innovation Council (KRIC). In brief, KRIC promotes economic development in the East Kootenay through business, educational, and community initiatives related to science, technology and innovation. CFEK partners with them in a variety of areas, especially regional economic development studies and the business program, MentorMatch. MentorMatch is a 3-month, one-on-one mentoring arrangement where CEOs / owners / managers (or retirees) are matched with junior entrepreneurs or business leaders to share their expertise. There is no charge for this highly credible service and we encourage entrepreneurs to explore it in more detail. For more information, follow this link. Or, download a MentorMatch brochure.
Stakeholders in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, including CFEK, have joined together to establish the Kootenay Rockies Regional Economic Alliance Society (KRREA). This joint and collaborative partnership spearheads economic development initiatives, ones that benefit the entire East Kootenay region. Note: KRREA is seeking applications form business individuals within the East Kootenay economic region interested in serving on its Board of Directors. The Board will play a critical role in the start-up, development and implementation of the alliance and will be composed of leaders from business, communities, regional economic development, Aboriginal organizations, youth, educational and training institutions, and government agencies. For candidate criteria, Board Member application forms, and other details visit www.krrea.org.
CFEK is proud partner of the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF). It is a national charity dedicated to growing our nation’s economy one young entrepreneur at a time. This partnership helps deliver start-up loans, mentoring, educational tools, and other assistance to entrepreneurs aged 18-34, all in an effort to help them launch successful businesses. The CYBF looks at character, not collateral, when assessing business ideas.
The following link provides access to a short video that describes and summarizes the program. For more details, visit the CYBF’s website at www.cybf.ca. |
